Jack Lalonde, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at the Nipawin Hospital at the age of 83 after bravely battling lung cancer over many years. He was predeceased by his parents Edilbert and Marguerite (Riou), his daughter Donna and brothers Dennis and Herb and sister Lorraine.
An incredibly loving man he was adored by his family. He will be especially missed by his wife of 42 years Marie (Peters), his son James and daughter Theresa and son-in-law Landon Grams. His grandchildren Imij, Oliver and Jude Grams will always cherish the memories of tractor rides with Grandpa, not to mention his welcoming hugs and bright smile, his sincere prayers and, of course, his sense of humour.
Jack loved his life on the prairies: he was born in the Ditton Park School District in 1934. He spent his adult life working with his brother Maurice in lumber camps and at Parkland Alfalfa Dehy (1968-1980) and on the land as a farmer. For years Jack would go to Maurice’s early every morning to play cribbage and plan the day’s work.
A real “jack” of all trades, if something needed fixing, Jack could do it. He enjoyed playing cards or retreating into a Western novel when he had leisure time. Jack was a man of strong faith - an active and dedicated parishioner of St. Lucy’s Catholic Church. He passed this faith on to his family and demonstrated his beliefs in all of his relationships.
Jack’s generous spirit affected everyone he met. He showed love through random acts of kindness, sacrifice and devotion - it’s no wonder he is loved and esteemed by so many. He has influenced our lives for the better and that influence will remain with each and every person whose life he touched. In this way, we know that Jack is still with us. Now reunited with his daughter Donna, the light of his life, we know that Jack is smiling down on us, free from pain and rejoicing in his family and in his friends.
