Brett Barry McKay “B-Yo” was born on September 12, 1995 to Barry and Maria McKay. He passed away suddenly on August 21, 2020. B-Yo received his education at Kiwaytinok Elementary School from nursery to Grade 7 and he attended JWHMEC high school. He completed ABE level 3 (grade 10) at Nipawin Cumberland Regional College.
Brett got his nickname “B-Yo” from his sister, Geena when they were little children. He took care of his baby sister Chloe until she was 2 years old, he would change her pamper and make baby bottles. Brett showed his younger siblings how to defend themselves. Brett was outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He’d never forget to crack his jokes around the people he was with. He would always look forward to hunting seasons and would plan hunting trips with his dad, brothers, and friends. When Alex and Zack married into the family, he took and taught them duck/moose hunting as a part of his traditional upbringing. Brett would always greet and help people when they needed it. He was always confident with his Cree speaking and brag about how well he could speak it. Whenever he came home to Red Earth, it was almost like he had a list of the places that he wanted to visit. He loved to stop by to visit friends and family especially his cousin Sabrina’s where he felt at home all the time. This was where his late nephew, who he considered “brother” Christian lived.
