It is with great sadness that the family of Jean (Eugenia) Sholter announces her passing on March 9, 2020 at the age of 92. Jean was born May 14, 1927 in the St. Julien area near Wakaw, Saskatchewan to Yurko and Sophie Michayluk.
Jean spent her early years on her parent’s farm, becoming an essential caregiver to members of her family. On May 6, 1950 Jean and Richard Sholter were married and began their life near Codette and then moved to Choiceland in 1956. Jean became a significant partner in creating one of the most successful farms in the Choiceland area. While farming, she and Richard went on to become owners of a Macleod Store franchise and later owners of the Choiceland Hotel. Jean also found time to serve her community as a long standing member of the Royal Purple. She enjoyed the sport of curling, whether on the ice or as an avid spectator, Bingo and the card game of Kaiser, often playing until the wee hours of the morning. Throughout her life Jean always enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was the best of listeners and was never judgmental, but most positive in her support of others. The joy of the holiday seasons was very special to Jean; her favorite being Christmas and Ukrainian Christmas celebrations with family was the best of all. Jean spent the last several years living in Regina where she met new people and made many new friends. Her interests in curling were renewed along with her enthusiasm for the Riders.
