Helen Trites, age 90, peacefully passed away on April 3, 2019 at the Carrot River Health Centre.
She was born on September 23, 1928 at Lucky Lake Saskatchewan, the fourth of eleven children of Nick and Signe Danroth. She had many adventures while attending Waterside School. Helen did housekeeping and worked at the Demaine Co-op Store where she met Don Trites from Moncton, New Brunswick.
On April 10, 1948, Mom and Dad were married. For one year they lived at the Riverbend/Sunnydale Co-op at Smoky Burn. They farmed for ten years with the Sunnydale Co-op Farm. Smoky Burn was their home until 1990 when they moved to Nipawin. Dad passed away in 1993. Recent health changes necessitated Mom’s move to Pasquia Place then to the Carrot River Health Centre in Carrot River.
Mom tended to worry about family living farthest away. Letters, phone calls, special delivery messages or visits were her way to keep in touch. A memorial for baby Roger was something that Mom made sure was done.
Mom’s interests were numerous. In addition to her beautiful gardens, she canned and picked berries. She was a skilled craftsperson and liked to “keep busy” with sewing, knitting, embroidery and quilting. Each of her grandchildren received a special quilt made by her. She was proud to have worked on the Guinness world record quilt in Nipawin. Playing cards, especially at “the Burn” was a favorite pastime. Scrabble was Mom’s favorite board game. The winner didn’t have to do the dishes and she most often won! Travel was important and Mom and Dad visited family and friends often on all three Canadian Coasts.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, her son Roger (1961), her parents, her son in law Don Kotyk and her siblings: Carl, Clarice, Joyce, Stewart, Ronald, Floyd and Grace.
She is survived by her children: Wilf (Joan), Cheryl, Grant (Janet),

She is also survived by her siblings: Myrtle (Harold), Donald (Ethel) and
