It is with great sadness that we announce that Kay Waddell (nee Brass) passed away July 2, 2021 in Tisdale Saskatchewan at age 96. She lived a long full life but it was cancer that took her from us. We feel blessed to have had her in our lives for so many years.
Kay was born March 18, 1925 in Punnichy Saskatchewan to Selena and Robert Brass. In 1929 she moved with her family by covered wagon to Nipawin Saskatchewan. She was only 3 lbs. at birth and throughout her youth, she survived diphtheria, tuberculosis and German measles. Her early battles, no doubt helped in the development of her strong will and determination that she carried with her to the end. Her faith in God was very strong and this faith brought her comfort as she grew weak in her final days.
October 16, 1946 Kay married Harold John Waddell. They started life together in Nipawin but they wanted to farm. In 1955 they moved to their homestead east of Carrot River where they resided until retiring back to Nipawin in 1996. Their love was enduring and sweet to observe. They lived, loved and cherished each other throughout their 62 years together and for Mom, until she passed. They worked hard side by side operating a mixed farm. Kay was well known for her huge garden and hospitality. There was always time for tea or coffee and room for an extra plate at mealtime.
Kay will be lovingly remembered for many things: her sense of humor, her silly sayings, her love of babies and her prolific memory of people and places. She remembered landmarks on roads she had not travelled on in years. She only needed to meet you once to remember you and how you were connected or associated to other people that she knew. All her life, the people she called a friend ranged from the young to the old. She was wonderfully social and despite crippling arthritis in her later years, she had a remarkable zest for living, a sharp sense of humor and she thrived in any gathering.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, six siblings, husband Harold (2009), son Robert (2001), grandson Carter (2015). She is survived
by son Stan (Tracey) Waddell, daughters: Alice Rowan(Rick Petrie),
Linda (David) Lindsay, Fay (Kelly) Pilatus, Bonnie (Harold) Bull ,
Shelley (Norman) Enns, grandchildren Marni, Coleman, Crystal, Chris, Brandon, Rhonda, Miranda, Monica, Tanya, Riley, Talena, Tyson, Janelle, Kaylyn, Harrison, Cody, Rhett, and sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was known as “Grandma Kay” to far more than her family and will be missed by more than family.
