With sadness the family of Doris Marie Blair (Thiel) announces her passing on September 5, 2019 at the age of 77.
Born in Bruno, Saskatchewan to Walter and Lydia Thiel, Doris was the second oldest of 4 children and the only daughter. Her life was characterized by hard work and her kind and gentle nature.
Doris was raised on the farm and attended school in Bruno. The family worked hard as first generation Canadians, who started with very little.
Doris moved to Saskatoon once she finished school, working at various jobs including the Credit Society and a coat factory.
Doris met David Blair in 1965 at a community dance. They were married August 12, 1967 in Bruno Saskatchewan.
Doris was very busy raising 4 children. She worked hard at growing large flower and vegetable gardens, pickling and canning fruits and vegetables for the winter ahead. The winters were also spent waking in the night to check on calving cows, along with bottle feeding and keeping warm the calves that required it. Doris loved to be in the kitchen cooking for the family and baking treats for bake sales, school lunches and coffee and tea with friends and neighbors. She loved her family and was happiest when feeding them.
Doris had a strong faith in God and attended mass regularly from Mount Carmel in the Carmel/Bruno area and St Mary’s in Choiceland. She was involved with the Catholic Women’s League for over 50 years and was devoted to volunteering whenever she could.
Doris was a member of the Order of The Royal Purple for 46 years including Honored Royal Lady and secretary for many years. Many hours were spent organizing, preparing for and cooking at events. Doris cherished the many lifelong friendships developed through the Royal Purple.
