Anna (Froese) was born near Swift Current, SK, to Abram and Anna Froese, January 5, 1931. She was the oldest daughter of eight children. In 1933, they moved to homestead near Petaigan. Anna was educated first at home, and later in a one room schoolhouse, but all in German until she was eleven years old. Church activities were important to all, and she developed a love for Jesus, the Bible, and for music. When she was half way through Grade 7, her youngest brother Henry got sick with leukemia, so she had to stay home and help. Months later Henry died.
In 1949 Anna went to Bible School in Altona, Manitoba. She was deeply involved in teaching Sunday School and Good News Clubs, singing in the choir and singing for seniors. With a desire to serve on the mission field, after Bible School she took a short course to complete grade 12. She then went to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to apply for the mission field, but she was not accepted because of some health concerns. She was then hired to teach school, Grade 1 to 8, in the Hudson Bay area. It was there she first met Walter Shewchuk, who worked making deliveries to stores.
They were married November 3, 1956, and soon Ruth and Rachel where born. Then they moved to the Froese homestead at Petaigan, Sask., where Carol, David and Mark completed the family. Walter and Anna both worked hard at mixed farming and raising their family. She loved gardening and growing fruit trees, and showing great hospitality to all. She loved to serve others and was known for her amazing meals and soups that so many enjoyed.
When Walter's health started to decline, they moved near White Fox in 1974. Walter did janitor work at the school in Nipawin, while Anna started working at the hospital as a cook where she also earned her journeyman's in cooking. Anna retired from the hospital in April of 1992 and they spent their retirement years in Nipawin, enjoying friends in their home and at the Dairy Queen. Walter passed away in 2000. In October of 2008, Anna downsized and moved to Riverside Manor for about eight years, and then to Pineview Lodge in January of 2017 for her last two years.
Anna loved to sing with others. Her love for music was related to her love for her Saviour. Her faith, and the Word of God made her that beautiful lady we all knew and loved.Anna (nee: Froese) was born on January 5, 1931 at Cantuar, SK (near Blumenhof) to Abram and Anna (Loewen) Froese.
