George Harvey Penner was born December 8, 1945 on the Penner farm at Lost River, SK. He was the fourth child born to Dick and Nora (Brown) Penner. He grew up on the family farm and attended Newfield School. On September 23, 1972, Harvey married Sharlene Freedman from Ratner, SK. They always lived at Codette, where they built their home in 1983. They had two children, Bobbi and Greg.
Harvey worked at various jobs – for farmers, construction, the Thompson Nickel Mine, Saskatoon Potash Mine. When he was 17, he went by himself to BC to work at a sawmill. From 1972-83, he worked at the Codette Co-op Service Station and Farm Supply. In August 1983, he started working for the Village of Codette as the town man, where he took pride in his job for over 30 years.
Like his dad, hunting, fishing, trapping and the great outdoors, played a major part in his life.
Harvey played fastball for the Codette Cougars and then slo-pitch with the Codette Colts. He also played some hockey. He watched lots of hockey and was hoping he would get to see the Toronto Maples Leafs win a cup. CFL football, curling and baseball were his other armchair (TV) sports.
Harvey spent his spare time at the Penner farm, keeping up the yard and garden, feeding his cats and the deer, quadding, snowmobiling, checking his traps and just enjoying the wildlife and outdoors. He was very proud when his son, Greg retired from the military and moved home to the farm.
