Chlyla Gertie Umpherville was born on September 26, 1961 in Carrot River, Sk to John Riley and Belinda Mckay. Chlyla married George Umpherville on October 26, 1979; they were blessed with seven children.
Chlyla received her education at the John William Head Memorial Education Center which she had completed up to Grade 9. Chlyla worked for Lionel Head Memorial Store as a Janitor for a few years. Chlyla was a caregiver for Nechapanuk for thirteen years.
Chlyla enjoyed her free time fishing in the ladies fish derbies with her sister Louisa. Almost every year she would participate in entering memorial tournaments for Annual Garson Mckay and Wilson Mckay Fish Derbies. In her active years she played on the Ladies Slo-pitch league with her team called Cree. She enjoyed playing family cribbage tournaments and also enjoyed her time playing Bingo with her family. Chlyla spent most of her time with her daughters and sister teaching and preparing traditional food; also having family cook outs outside such as barbeques. Chlyla enjoyed and loved to go camping with her family with the Red Earth Family Camps that were held each year. Chlyla loved to give a helping hand by volunteering her time in helping and cooking for wake and funeral services.
Chlyla will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband George Umpherville. Their children: Hilliard (Rolene) Umpherville, Starla (Helliot) Nawakayas, Martin (Tara) Umpherville, Cheryl (Shawn) Head, Loran (Conrad) Flett, Lorraine (Riley) Flett, Clinton (Bethlyn) Umpherville. Her brothers: Lorie (Lydia) Mckay, Morris (Priscella) Mckay, Gary (Laura) Mckay, Eugene (Maxine) Mckay and Neil Mckay. Her sister: Louisa (Bernard) Umpherville. Her best friend Julia Cook. Her sisters in law: Melita Bear, Kathleen (Bill) McLain, Mariola Mckay, Miranda Umpherville. Her brothers in law: Bernard (Louisa) Umpherville, Bennette Umpherville, Kelvin (Judy) Umpherville. Her adopted children: Heather Umpherville, Roselle Head, Ernie Mckay, Coralene Head, Arthur Mckay, Judy Umpherville, Tanja Head, Sadie Voyageur, Shem Mckay, Curtis Mckay, Late Liza Mckay, Ernestine Sahyes, Josephine Nawakayas, Dwayne Mckay, Christopher Mckay, Kirk Mckay, Cynthia Kitchener, Bennita Umpherville, Ira Umpherville, Wapun Garvin and Anddreas Young. Chlyla had helped with and then took over care of her grandson Farren Umpherville from when he was 2 years old until now. Her adopted grandmother from Cumberland House Louisa Buck.
